✦ Synopsis


Tne threshold of stimulated Raman scaitering in nitrogen has been studied experimentally in the interval 50-350 amags under excitation of a picosccolid pulse train. The results show that this threshold does not depend on the h&width of the Q-branch, in accordance with Akmancv's theory for SRS P&I in the advent case.

## Abstract Raman scattering from metastable excited nitrogen molecules N~2~(A^3^Σu^+^) created by an impulse discharge in nitrogen at atmospheric pressure was detected. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser at a wavelength of 266 nm was used as the light source, and Raman scattering from N~2~(A^3^Σu^+^) at a wave
