✦ Synopsis

In this paper, the earthquake source development of tectonic earthquakes is discussed by applying the theory of the Stiffness Machine, Taking into consideration of the stiffness effect of the geological medium, a new stiffness effect model of earthquake source development is proposed. The critical condition for the instability is given by considering the interaction of the failed geological medium with the elastic medium around. Also, the characteristic of this stiffness effect model and the possibility for the earthquake prediction according to the model are discussed.
