Abstract
In this review we discuss the importance of sterols and their metabolites in health and disease. The review extends from precursors of cholesterol to their ultimate metabolites, i.e. bile acids. The mass spectrometry technology used for the analysis of these molecules is reviewed and the most modern methodologies highlighted.
