Treatment

of a solution of l,l-dichloro-2-butene and benzaldehyde with CrC12 in THF-DMF at 25'C for 1 h gave threo-(Z)-4-chloro-2-methyl-1-phenyl-3-buten-l-01 in 96% yield under high stereocontrol.
