The present study demonstrates the polymerization of ketenes by using lanthanoid isopropoxide as a novel initiator to produce a polyester of high molecular weight. This is the first example of an efficient room-temperature polymerization of ketenes. As a result of model reactions, it is indicated th

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Polymerization of MMA is achieved by using a novel initiator, most probably the lanthanum enolate growing species formed in the polymeritation of ketene with La(O^i^Pr)~3~. The design of this simple initiator is based on the stimulation of the reactivity of La(O^i^Pr)~3~, which by itself is inactive, upon the reaction with ketene.
