We have completed measurements of the 142'144Nd(n,7) cross sections from approximately 20 eV to 200 keV at the Oak Ridge Electron Linear Accelerator (ORELA) using a recently improved C6D~ detector apparatus. 142Nd is an s-only isotope, i.e. it is only formed during the s-process. It has a closed neu

✦ Synopsis
An updated table of Maxwellian averaged (n,7) cross sections including the available information until December 1996 is illustrated a.t the example of 153Eu. For the isotopes along the s process reaction chain existing data were normalized if necessary, converted to stellar cross sections, and condensed into a set of recommended values for kT = 30 keV. In a second step, these recommended values were used to establish the stellar cross seclions for thermal energies between 5 and 100 keV suited for all plausible s-process scenarios.

The origin of the heavy elements beyond Fe can be ascribed to the slow (s) and rapid (r) neutron capture processes, except for minor contributions from the p process. The mechanisms and recent model approaches for the related scenarios are briefly sketched with emphasis on the role of reaction cross
The existing keV neutron capture cross section data of the stable Ir isotopes 191 and 193 exhibit large discrepancies and have never been published in their final versions [1,2]. Therefore, the stellar cross sections of these isotopes have been remeasured relative to that of gold by means of the act
