Steady Now Doctor by Dr Robert Clifford, is a novel, as opposed to the nine autobiographical books of his Doctor series. He achieves the same balance of comedy, pathos and tragedy as he did in the Doctor series. We follow the life of Andy Howard through the ups and downs of school days, an heroic bicycle ride to Blackpool, warring parents and success and failure at rugby. This is followed by his life as a house surgeon with medical and personal dramas, seduction, violence and eventually sweet, true love and marriage. As in his Doctor series, Dr Clifford writes with a great sense of humour, and a rare insight and humanity.
