An expression for the mass "induced" by a prolate spheroid moving in an ideal fluid is obtained. The drag force on a prolate spheroidal drop is determined by using the effective mass approach. The drag force on a prolate drop is compared with the drag force on an oblate drop of the same volume and the same semi-axis ratio. The limits of applicability of the theory are discussed.
