โฆ Synopsis
In 1982, 12
.9% of the total urban population of Shanghai was 60 years of age and older. Information concerning the status and needs of the elderly was sparse until we conducted a 4 per thousand sampling survey of 6,715 elderly people living in Shanghai at the end of 1985. This paper presents some results of our research and raises some issues that should be addressed by officials of the People's Republic of China when planning for the needs of the elderly.
