โœฆ Synopsis

In recognition of the random character of Aeolian vibrations of overhead conductors, statistical methods are used for the acquisition and reduction of experimental data. The ensemble mean-square values and the distributions of peak values are emphasized in particular. An analytical model of the Aeolian vibrations of a conductor is proposed, based on the theory of narrow frequency bands of random noise. This model serves as a basis for rationalizing the data acquisition and reduction procedures and formulating the mean energy stored, the mean power dissipated and the mean loss factors. A method derived from this model is proposed for the acquisition of data on Aeolian power over a wide range of conditions including different intensities of wind turbulence. This, together with the dynamic properties of a given conductor, should allow consistent predictions of Aeolian vibration levels.

This paper presents a new module towards the development of efficient computational stochastic mechanics. Specifically, the possibility of an adaptive polynomial chaos expansion is investigated. Adaptivity in this context refers to retaining, through an iterative procedure, only those terms in a rep

It is shown in the present study that, in general, the accuracy of the Kantorovich method can be improved considerably by including an exponen tial optimization parameter, 7, and a multiplier factor, ~, in the part of the expression giving the solution which is chosen a priori when determining eigen
