โฆ Synopsis
This collaboration, and in particular this meeting, were supported by grants from the RFBR (project R06-03-04000) and the DFG (project 436 RUS 113/791). The aim of the workshop was twofold:
On the one hand, it was to provide a forum to review the progress in some key areas of the theory and simulation of macromolecular systems, such as the statistical mechanics of single chains under various conditions, polymer brushes, copolymers, liquid crystalline polymers, and complex polymer structures as they occur in polymer networks or in a biological context, for instance. The distinctive feature of this workshop was to schedule extended intermissions after each oral presentation (typically a 20 minute talk was followed by a 10 minute discussion period), to allow for a detailed discussion of the specific results and the remaining problems, and for further directions to be explored.
On the other hand, the second goal of the workshop was to promote understanding in the specific area of the German-Russian collaborative project, which deals with the computer simulation of semiflexible macromolecules that may show liquid crystalline order, under various conditions (bulk solution, adsorbed at surfaces, etc.
