β¦ Synopsis
Statistical and scientific management database
My aim is that this journal should cover both aspects of the interface between statistics and computing:
the impact of computing power on statistical science and the impact of statistics on computer science. This special issue of the journal is devoted to one area lying right at the interface between these two aspects. It is an area of growing importance, and yet one which has received relatively little attention from statisticians, namely statistical databases. It is my belief that this area can benefit synergistically from an interaction between computer scientists and statisticians. My aim is that this special issue should boost that interaction.
James C. French, of the University of Virginia, an expert in the area, kindly agreed to be the guest editor and has put together a stimulating collection of papers from leading researchers in the field. His introduction summarizes the scope of each paper.
