โœฆ Synopsis

In this paper, using daily sunshine data of the period 1950-1980, provided by the National Observatory of Athens, the empirical probability pro(x) for the daily relative sunshine to be greater than x is calculated for each month m. Fitting the empirical probability curves using the formula Pro(x) = (1 -xt)t(l +atx+a2x 2) the results show a good agreement between the calculated values and the empirical ones. The parameters k, l, a~, a2 are found to be different for each month m. These curves are useful for the application of solar energy in a particular geographical location.

The increase of living standards in buildings and the recent high summer temperature values have dramatically increased the installation of cooling systems in buildings. Analysis of the summer ambient temperatures is thus necessary in order to provide appropriate information to designers and to inve
