✦ Synopsis

We present experiments carried out in cylindrical indium films of 6 pm thickness deposited by evaporation on quartz wires. The current-voltage characteristics begin at Ie with a tiny jump in the voltage and then shows a linear variation. As soon as the current reaches a value 1 m ~Ie, the voltage increases rapidly and the film becomes entirely normal (N).This behaviour and other predictions confirmed by these experiments can be understood on the basis of our theory involving the role of the intermediate state (I) and the twodimensional mixed state (M) in films.
