✦ Synopsis

We report on an increase in the steady-state fluorescence Stokes shift of coumarin 153 when LiCI04 is added to polar solvents.

A new relaxation process is observed in the presence of the electrolyte which is related to the ionic atmosphere relaxation around the large dipole created in the excited state.
