β¦ Synopsis
Based upon the author's testimony before the National Governor's Association (NGA) Taks Force on Technology, this article identifies important considerations which state education agencies should take into account in developing technology plans and strategies. It also highlights successful approaches undertaken in several states and recommends technology policies and initiatives which should be undertaken, including the creation of interstate consortia for software development, evaluation, and distribution. Subsequently, several of the author's recommendations were included in the NGA report "Time for Results" and have been incorporated into the planning phase of the Software Communications Service, an eighteen state and four Canadian province consortium.
