β¦ Synopsis
Eight original Star Trek stories never seen on the screen. The 2nd volume published by Bantam Books in the 1970s.
In its origins, Star Trek fandom was an exclusively female operation. The fans who ran the letter writing campaigns, the fans who organised the conventions, and β especially β the fans who wrote the fan-fiction: all were, without exception, women.
This spoke to the fundamental fact that the show's earliest fans were responding to the sex appeal of its two leading men, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, the original stars. Nimoy in particular, as Spock, had an unearthly fascination for women in the audience.
Hence this volume, the first book of Star Trek fiction ever published that was not written by professional author James Blish, is edited by two female fans, and all the stories contained in it are by female authors. Although, in his introduction to the book, Gene Roddenberry is careful not to draw attention to the point.
