In the first of an occasional series, we look at standards currently under development around the world in the field of sealing technology. In this issue, we focus on the work of the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), one of the largest voluntary standards development organisations in the world. The scope of the ASTM's Committee F03 is the promotion of knowledge, stimulation of research, and the development of test methods, specifications, and nomenclature for materials used for gaskets, and the development of dimensional and design consideration of gaskets.
