Abstract
Study of euglobulin fractions from normal sera has demonstrated two types of inhibitors for the sheep cell agglutination reaction. One of these is a gamma globulin, the other, an alphaβ2 globulin. Gamma globulin in an aggregated state neutralizes the rheumatoid factor by combining with it. The specific constitutent of the alphaβ2 globulins responsible for these properties is not yet known, nor has it been possible to define the mechanism by which these proteins stabilize the reaction. Certain properties of these two fractions are described and their possible roles in positive reactions in certain nonrheumatoid conditions are discussed.
