✦ Synopsis

On warming at a rate of 4 "C/min in a sealed testing vessel (Mettler thermoanalyzer TA 2000) benzyl(triethy1)ammonium permanganate explodes violently at cu. 120 "C with liberation of about 350 kJ/mol heat. The compound also decomposes violently at lower temperatures, but only after expiration of a certain induction time dependent upon the temperature (autocatalytic decomposition)-e. g. 2g-amounts of ( 1) in an open vessel ignite spontaneously after 14 h at 60 "C, or after only 28 rnin at 90°C. At 50°C no measurable exothermic reaction could be observed within 92 h.

Benzyl(ethy1)ammonium permanganate is sensitive to impact (class 3; 49 Nm).

It is recommended that benzyl(triethy1)ammonium permanganate should not be kept in storage and that room temperature should not be exceeded on drying it in VUCUO['~.

In summary, Fe:/NaY and Co:/NaY clusters encapsulated in zeolites have proven to be interesting catalysts for the conversion of CO/H2 mixtures into low carbon number olefins with a propensity towards C4 products. The results reinforce the hypothesis of Jacob ef aI.1151 that Fischer-Tropsch product d
