โœฆ Synopsis


The stability of a viscous flow between two rotating coaxial cylivaders with large ratio of gap-width to cylinder-radius is investigated. The mathematical characteristic value problem is solved approximately. Numerical calculations for the radius-ratio equal to 1.71 are carried out to determine the critical Taylor numbers at the onset of &stability for different values of the ratio of the rotational speed of the outer cylinder to that of the inner cylinder. The calculated results are compared to Lewis' experiments.
