โœฆ Synopsis


The stability of electrically conducting fluid motions in the presence of temperature and concentration gradients in a rotating frame of reference is studied. Liapunov Movchan method of stability analysis with respect to two metrics is stated and it is shown that the Serrin energy method is a special case of the present method. An energy Liapunov functional is considered and the sufficiency conditions for stability of an arbitrary time dependent fluid motion are obtained. The special case of the stability of the motionless state of a fluid layer is treated in detail. It is shown that for an energy Liapunov functional the intensity of the external magnetic field and the angular velocity of the rotating frame of reference do not affect the stability criteria.
