Opposites attract: This work demonstrates luminescence resonance energy transfer sensors based on YVO 4 :Eu/ LaPO 4 :Ce,Tb nanoparticles as donors and differently shaped gold nanoparticles as acceptors, combined through the electrostatic interactions between the oppositely charged nanoparticles.

Light-driven chirality: Sequential light-driven isomerization of prochiral, bis(azobenzene)-containing amino acids results in the formation of chiral entities that have been characterized by different techniques. Metal nanoparticles conjugated with these amino acids retain the photoswitching propert
The dicyanomethylene and dithiafulvene substituents have been introduced into the p-conjugated truxene framework to tune the electronic and redox properties as well as the molecular assembled structures. The dicyanomethylene-and dithiafulvene-appended truxenes function as the electron acceptor or th
A fierce fullerene in a cage: C 70 encapsulated into a surfacecross-linked liposome (a morphologically stable cerasome) was prepared by an exchange reaction. The photodynamic activity of the cerasome with incorporated C 70 in HeLa cells was similar to that of a lipid membrane with incorporated C 70
