✦ Synopsis

SPONTANEOUS perforation of the colon is well recognized and is commonly due to ulceration, diverticulitis, or new growth. The following case is reported because it appears that spontaneous perforation occurred in a macroscopically normal pelvic colon. Only 4 similar cases have been found in the literature (Hahn, .I93I; Brown, 1944; Lataix, 1949; and Weinstein and Roberts, 1952).
