✦ Synopsis
Mathieu-Gauss mode oscillations were observed in micro-grained isotropic Nd:YAG microchip ceramic lasers with azimuth laser diode pumping. The effect of fluorescence anisotropy or thermal birefringence on these pattern formations is discussed for several laser materials. 50 μm 50 μm Micro-grain Large-grain (a) (b) (a) -scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of etched surfaces of micro-grained and larger-grain Nd:YAG ceramic samples; (b) -example lasing patterns obtained by azimuthal laserdiode pumping
