The author analyzes the theory of organizational influence on spontaneous environmental scanning in case studies of four Swedish organizations. The analysis shows that organizational circumstances influenced the scanning behavior. At the end of the article the author discusses the importance of diagnosing spontaneous environmental scanning to organize environmental scanning more efficiently.
