✦ Synopsis

The aim of this work was to evaluate sonographically and by duplex study the abnormal pathological findings in the hands and wrists or rheumatoid patients. It was conducted on 20 patients filling the criteria of the American Rheumatism Association. Their age range from 21-58 years F:M ratio of 3. I. Plain radiography and real time H.R. Sonography were used. Duplex assessment using 7.5 Mh linear array transducter was adopted on both radial and ulnar arteries to measure RI based on comparison with healthy control subjects matching with the same age and sex. Tendon sheath thickening, tendon tear, subcutaneous nodule, pannus and efusion were among the different abnormal findings encountered while duplex revealed reduced RI over the radial and ulnar arteries. Ultrasound proved to be very useful examining rheumatoid patients. SPMO 8205
