✦ Synopsis

A survey of spinodal decomposition theory, with the purpose of comparing binary and ternary systems, indicated differences in the measurable properties and in the time evolution of low angle X-ray intensity. These differences will not always be observed in experiments, however, in which case binary and ternary systems will appear the same.

Similarities between the two systems become most evident when one considers various approximate solutions to the ternary diffusion equation.
