β¦ Synopsis
In the last two years new measurements of the structure functions gP, g~, gd have been performed by experiments at CERN, SLAC and DESY. A complete review of these experimental results is presented. Perturbative QCD evolution in next-to-leading order is used to evolve gl to a common Q2 at which the first moment of the structure function is evaluated. Results from different experiments show consistently a violation of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule. A preliminary combined analysis of all the available data gives at 5 GeV2: F p -F~ --f: gP(x) -f: g~(x) = 0.189 4-0.018, in agreement with the theoretical prediction given by the Bjorken sum rule 0.181 4-0.03.

The experimental status of the spin-dependent structure functions as obtained from deep inelastic scattering experiments at CERN, SLAC and DESY is discussed. The data available for g~, gdl and 9~ are evolved to common Q2=5 GeV 2 and compared. The gl structure functions are now precise enough to per
