Oil Co's Fischer-Tropsch ruthenium catalyst will be tested by a group of Japanese firms headed by Japan National Oil as part of a gas-toliquids programme. The firms have commenced operation of a pilot plant, which is designed to produce 7 bbl/day of kerosene and light oils in a slurry phase reaction at around 270ยฐC and 30 bars. The ruthenium catalyst has been claimed by Cosmo to provide better resistance to carbon dioxide than conventional cobalt or iron catalysts.
