✦ Synopsis
An analysis is nlade of a heat exchanger in which the fluid flows in the annular space between two spheres. Under the assumptions of an incompressible inviscid fluid, constant fluid entrance temperature, and constant wall temperatures, an expression is developed for the temperature of the fluid at any position in the heat exchanger using the Sturm-Liouville system. An expression for the average Nusselt No. as a function of the Graetz No., a dimensionless ratio of radii, and a ratio of angles is developed and plotted. An approximate solution for the average Nusselt No. is given that is a good approximation when the inside radius of the shell is nearly as large as the outside radius.
