The principal route for decay of Hg 6s6~(~P,) in xenon is shown to be bimolecular deactivation to the mercury ground state, with rate coefficient 9.1 x lo-l3 cm3 molecule-' s-l. , relaxation to the 3Po state plays a negligible role.
