✦ Synopsis
The structure and nature of some semi-and thiosemicarbazone derivatives are investigated by spectral (IR, UV, NMR) and pH studies. All the title compounds exist mainly in keto and/or enol forms either in the solid or liquid states except that derived from salicyaldehyde thiosemicarbazone. This compound mainly exhibits the enethiol form in DMSO rather than the thione structure. Also, the results show that the enolization proceeds via the NH 2 group rather than the NH group.
