✦ Synopsis

I

Steady-state spectra, time-resolved spectroscopic, and excitation spectra from human cancer and normal tissues have been measured. Spectroscopic differences between normal and cancerous tissues have been found that could be used as a basis for an instrument for the early detection of cancer.

## Abstract A relatively non‐destructive method employing Raman spectroscopy for the analysis of histopathological specimens is described. Raman spectroscopy has allowed qualitative analysis of the same specimen used for histopathological evaluation. Breast cancer tissues have been analysed to demo

Functionally different tenascin (TN) isoforms. containing varying numbers of a 9 I amino-acid motif resembling the fibronectin type-Ill homology repeat, may be generated by alternative splicing of the TN primary transcript. In fact, only the TN isoform containing the alternatively spliced region can

Occurrence of abnormal transcripts of the FHIT (fragile histidine triad) gene has been reported in various types of cancer. On the other hand, aberrant transcripts are sometimes found in non-neoplastic tissues, so the relationship between the presence of abnormal transcripts of the FHIT gene and can
