β¦ Synopsis
Electrochemically modulated infrared spectroscopy (EMIRS) was used to obtain in situ spectra of the radical anions (ketyls) of benzophenone and some related compounds. The results indicate that the electrochemical reduction is accompanied by considerable loosening of the carbonyl bond and leads to a red shift in the frequencies of the vibrational modes of the aryl rings.
