Abstract

The composition and stability of the chelate formed between uranyl ion (II) and 1 (o‐arsonophenylazo) 2 naphthol 3:6 disulphonate (Thoron) have been investigated using spectrophotometric method. The chelate is red in colour and has λ~max~ at 510mμ. The composition as determined by different methods is 1:1. The chelate is stable between pH 2.5 and 5.0. The values of log K as determined by two different methods are 4.2 ± 0.25 and 4.54 ± 0.15 respectively at pH 3.0 and at 25°.
