✦ Synopsis
The concentration of proteins in solutions or cell-free extracts contnminated by tRNA's or rRNA's can be simply, rapidly, and accurately determined by measuring the absorbance at 2265 and 2345A, two wavelengths where the absorption due to ribonucleic acids is identical so that their interference can be eliminated. This method is sensitive and gives results which are similar to those obtained by the calorimetric method of Lowry and better than those obtained by the spectrophotometric method of Warburg and Christian or that of Groves et al.
