A flow-injection system is proposed for the rapid determination of trace amounts of formaldehyde based on its inhibition of the Brilliant Green-suiphite reaction at pI1 7. Formaldehyde in the range 40-3000 ng ml-' can be determined at a rate of 35 f 5 samples h -I. The limit of detection was 20 ng m
