✦ Synopsis

A method for the spectrophotometnc determmation of cobah IS presented, urlth a comparison of the bmary complexes formed by cobaWl) wrath dl-Zpyndyl ketone mcotmoylhydraxone (DPKNH), dl-2-pyndyl ketone 2thlophenoylhydrazone (DPKTHI and dl-Zpyndyl ketone benzoylhydrazone (DPKBH) m 50% (v/v) ethanohc solutlon Cobalt(H) forms 1 2 complexes wth the three reagents Maxunum absorbance 1s at 372 nm for Co(H)-DPKNH, at 389 nm for CdII)-DPKTH and at 370 nm for C&I)-DPKBH Ranges of bneanty, effects of pH and excess reagent, sens&vlty, statubty of the complexes and tolerance lututs of lolls are reported It was concluded that the system with DPKTH 1s the best, followed by DPKNH and then DPKBH The method was apphed to the determmation of cobalt m dtierent alloys Keywar& Spectrophotometq Alloys, Cobalt
