✦ Synopsis
The spectroscopic study of Nd 3þ in g-Nd 3þ : LaSc 3 (BO 3 ) 4 crystal had been performed. Using the Judd-Ofelt theory to analyze the optical strengths measured in absorption spectra, the following spectral parameters were obtained: parameters of oscillator strengths W l are W 2 ¼ 1.951 Â 10 À20 cm 2 , W 4 ¼ 3.262 Â 10 À20 cm 2 , W 6 ¼ 2.801 Â 10 À20 cm 2 , the radiative lifetime is 300 ms, the quantum efficiency is 37.3%, the emission cross section s p (1.06 mm) ¼ 9.0 Â 10 À20 cm 2 , and the fluorescence branch ratios were calculated: b 1 ¼ 0.427, b 2 ¼ 0.432, b 3 ¼ 0.077, b 4 ¼ 0.004.
