✦ Synopsis
We present a series of comparative spectral diffusion experiments in the millikelvin range on protoporphyrin-IX substituted myoglobin and protoporphyrin-IX directly dissolved in a host glass. There are experiments in which the protein behaves glass-like. However, there are also properly designed experiments in which the behaviour of the protein is qualitatively different from that of the glass. From the glass-like and protein-specific behaviour we can draw quite definite conclusions on the respective energy landscapes.
