โฆ Synopsis
High quality Tm-doped YAlO 3 (Tm:YAlO 3 ) single crystals were obtained along crystallographic b-axis by the Czochralski technique. Optical absorption and fluorescence spectra for Tm 3+ in YAlO 3 crystals were investigated at room temperature. Based on Judd-Ofelt approach, the intensity parameters X t (t = 2, 4, 6) of Tm:YAlO 3 were calculated to be X 2 = 0.93 โข 10 ร20 cm 2 , X 4 = 2.23 โข 10 ร20 cm 2 , and X 6 = 1.12 โข 10 ร20 cm 2 . The spectral parameters such as experimental and theoretical oscillator strengths, radiative transition probabilities, radiative lifetime and the fluorescence branching ratio were also obtained. All results indicate that Tm:YAlO 3 is a potential candidate for compact, efficient mid-infrared lasers with laser diode pumping.

The results on optical absorption, photoluminescence and thermoluminescence of YAP-Tm crystals of 1 at.% and 4 at.% of Tm are presented as well as influence of UV-, ฮณ-radiation and thermal treatments on optical and luminescence properties of the crystals. The blue-green luminescence of defect center
