✦ Synopsis
CeCu 0.7 Al 3.3 single crystals have been prepared by the solution growth method. The compound crystallizes in the tetragonal BaAl 4 -type of structure with lattice parameters a =4.262 Åand c= 10.776 Å. A detailed specific-heat study of CeCu 0.7 Al 3.3 is presented. The data confirm ferromagnetic order below T C =4 K. The estimated Kondo temperature lies also around 4 K. The electronic specific-heat coefficient was found to be moderately enhanced over the values for common metallic compounds. It is shown that the energy splitting between the ground state and the first excited doublet amounts to 75 K at least, which is considerably higher than the value deduced from magnetization data.
