Oysters are among the most familiar, best studied, and morphologically variable of all marine invertebrate taxa. However, our knowledge of oyster phylogeny and systematics is rudimentary, especially for the subfamily Ostreinae (flat oysters). It is unclear, for instance, whether the predominant flat
