โฆ Synopsis
Hot Specialised temperature flange seal gasket for tighter engine management New engine management concepts are needed to meet the stricter emission limits lald down by ULEV and Euro4. They can only be successful, however, if the permissible leakage from sealed joints is reduced by a factor often. HotDog@ gaskets from Feodor Burgmann Dichtungswerke Germany have been developed for use on hot flanges, where high demands on tightness are required, for example, upstream and downstream of catalytic converters. The principle of operation is based on a new combination of familiar sealing materials. A core element based on compressible graphite makes for a high level of adaptability to sensitive flange surfaces during installation and for resilience to thermally induced flange distortions during operation.
The graphite is protected from air ingress by a mica foil applied to both sides. Both sealing materials were chosen to display good surface and sectional tightness and create an excellent surface sealing effect. Roughness of the flange faces does not affect the seal's function, so that no special machining of the flanges is required. A spiked sheet insert is inserted as mechanical reinforcement.
The seals have a beading around the gas port. This beading acts as a safety element to prevent gas inflow and adds to the seal's mechanical strength.
