✦ Synopsis
This revised and expanded edition is primarily aimed for soil engineers and soil testing laboratories, but reflects an expanded role of the sponsoring committee into rock mechanics. Unlike previous editions, the approximately 50 ASTM tentative or standard soil testing methods are not included, but are available in the Annual Book of Standards Part II. Thus the present volume may be regarded as on the frontiers of soil and rock testing (sometimes off to one side). About 80 of the almost lO0 methods were submitted by individuals, the remainder being from subcommittees, highway departments, etc.
