✦ Synopsis

Talks ranged from very applied to cutting edge research. The exchange of knowledge and experiences fostered international collaboration in research and other technology transfer activities. It provided also an opportunity for dialogue between statisticians working in business, finance and industry, and academia.

The International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS) (www.isbis.org) is devoted to facilitating the advancement and exchange of knowledge in business, financial and industrial statistics. ISBIS does this by promoting research and applications, and best practice; by enabling technology transfer; and by fostering communication among its members. ISBIS seeks to promote the value of statistics to business and industry and to support enabling activities, particularly in the lesser-developed countries. The objectives of the ISBIS are:

• To promote the advancement and exchange of knowledge in business and industrial statistics;

• To build international association and collaboration among statisticians working in business and industry; • To foster cooperation at an international level between statistical activities in universities and individuals working in business and industry; • To increase public awareness of the importance of Statistics in business and industry; • To encourage links between statisticians in the developing and developed countries.
