β¦ Synopsis
This special issue is a compilation of some of the papers presented at the Third IEEE Computer Society Workshop on Computer Vision: Representation and Control. We believe these papers are a fair reflection of the broad spectrum of issues being pursued by the vision research community at this time and should be a good indicator of where research in computer vision is headed, at least in the near term.
A special feature of the workshop was that we invited some of the speakers to give intentionally controversial talks on their areas of specialty. This was accompanied by our designating one or two members of the audience as "friendly adversaries." This formula appeared to work well as all such talks were marked by lively discussions. These papers are included in this special issue.
