β¦ Synopsis
The statistical properties of spatio-temporal distributions formed by a population undergoing reproduction in a fluctuating medium are discussed. We find that these distributions are characterized by the presence of strong rare spikes which move on a quiescent background. The spikes are closely related to the solitons of the nonlinear Schr6dinger equation.

A computer algorithm has been developed which enables numerical computations to be performed for interactive neuron populations whose spatio-temporal behaviors are represented by a set of certain integro-differential equations. The computation is based on the fact that the eigenfunctions of a symmet
