✦ Synopsis

In this paper, we consider spatial intermittency in classical two-dimensional and geostrophic turbulence. Intermittency corrections to the scaling behavior in the inertial ranges are first deduced and then extrapolated down to the Kraichnan microscale. In the geostrophic case, particular emphasis is placed on the departures from the classical two-dimensional turbulence results that are produced by the baroclinic effects. These considerations provide further insights into the basic mechanisms underlying spatial intermittency in classical two-dimensional and geostrophic turubulence.
